A switch, a break, and a list

December 17, 2008

So, I’ve been blogging for a few years now on Xanga, but for the past year or so it just wasn’t cutting it for me. I quite enjoy blogging, so I’m hoping that this switch to what seems like a more “sophisticated” blog provider will motivate me to post more than just song lyrics and quotes.

I believe I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas break. If it was just a week shorter, or if I could spend some of it in my nice clean room on campus, I think I would feel better about it. For me, break holds many pros and cons:

Pros:

  • No schoolwork!
  • Waking up whenever I want to. Except on Sundays, lol.
  • Cable TV.
  • Wireless! (This only very recently occurred, so I am still super excited about it.)
  • Video games. As much as that makes me sound like a nerd.
  • Not having to deal with stupid  and annoying fellow college students.
  • Spending time with my family.
  • Decent food. Even if my mom doesn’t always prepare meals for us, at least I always have something I want to eat at my fingertips.
  • The release of finals being over.
  • Doing nothing.

Cons:

  • Doing nothing. As much as I enjoy not having anything to do, that gets old after a few days and I find myself cleaning the house to feel like I’m a contributing member of society.
  • Having to sleep on the couch for the first few nights because my family’s stuff was all over my bed.
  • Insomnia. I seem to worry more when I’m at home.
  • Not having my own place to simply BE. Share the room. Share the house.
  • Having to live out of a suitcase for 3 weeks. This is especially annoying since I have two days to live out of my room back at school, and then I’m off to Europe to live out of a suitcase for another 2 weeks.
  • Not being able to dry my laundry because the drier is broken.
  • Getting frustrated at myself because I struggle with cooking anything but pasta. As much as I complain about the caf, I honestly can’t do much better.
  • Not having friends at home, and missing my boyfriend and friends from school.

The pros and cons are about the same, but at different times throughout each day that I’m on break, I find myself either loving or being completely annoyed by being on break. Ah, well. Such is life, I suppose. There’s a silver lining to every cloud – not that being at home is SO depressing, lol.

Anyway, I’m going to New York this Friday and coming back Sunday. Three other girls and myself will be taking the trip to Andrew’s and back, staying there for the weekend, going into the city, and visiting his church. I’m excited to see him. :)

2 days away: Andrew!

9 days away: Christmas!

21 days away: Europe!

That’s pretty much what I have to look forward to during break. But that’s ok, lol. That’s totally ok.
